Background
A kid who grew up by himself in the Veldt. He was abandoned
by his parents after his birth and was raised among animals.
He learns skills of enemies and uses them to defend himself
while on the Veldt. When Cyan and Sabin were finding clues on
getting to Narshe, they have ran into Gau who appears on the
Veldt randomly after battles. Gau was begging any people who
past by the Veldt for food and he is afraid of strangers who
attacked him. After visiting Mobliz, they learned from the villagers,
that a boy loves Dried Meat, and he would be friendly to anyone
who gave it to him. Due to their kindness, he decides to learn
a hand to aid them to get to Narshe via the Serpent Trench.
Skill - Rage
Every character has his/her own unique set of special
attacks known as "Skills". Some of them requires the
character to equip weapons or accessories to function, while
others depend on the experience levels of the character. Some
characters have a single skill ability while others have multiple
ones. Rage allows Gau to attack like an enemy. There are a total
of 255 Rage techniques that Gau can use. To learn new Rages,
Gau must learn it at the Veldt. The Veldt is located somewhere
near Mobliz. For details on the location, check our World
Map for details.
Rage
Gau is a special character as he does not have any Fight
command which allows you to control him normally. Once
in "Rage", Gau will inherit enemies' special
bonuses such as "Float", "Shell" or
"Safe" and the properties of the enemies. He
will even bear the same elemental weakness like the enemy!
E.g when use Power Demon Rage, Gau transform into an Undead!
When in "Rage", you will lose control of him
and attack using the enemy's skill in an endless fashion
until he was KO'd or dead. You will find bubbles appearing
on his heat.
Leap
The Leap command only appears when Gau is on Veldt. The
Veldt is the only place where Gau learns new "Rages".
On the Veldt, you will encounter most of the monsters
that you have encountered prior to the game. Thus, always
make a return back to here after you have completed a
new dungeon. Once you find a enemy that you can learn
Rage from it, use "Leap" and the battles will
end. Go into battle and hopefully, Gau comes back...
Learning Rages and Interesting Facts about Veldt
To learn a new Rage, go to the Veldt. Get into the battle
and have Gau leap on them. Your party will be left with three
members only. With three members, stay in the Veldt and wait
for another random battle. Once you defeat the enemy, Gau will
return back to the party with new Rages that he has learn from
enemies that he leaped and enemies that you have defeated! Note:
If you attack him as he returns he will ran away and loses the
Rage ability from the enemies that you have defeated earlier!
The Veldt is a strange place
as you will gain no experience points. You can make use of this
place to train Strago to learn new Lores as this place allows
you to encounter enemies that you have encountered before! However,
there are some points to take note of: Some of the enemies are
extremely tough to defeat if your party consists of 3 instead
of the normal 4 member or could use damaging spells such as
Meteor and hit your party with any of the following deadly status
ailments -Doom or Zombie, Muddle, Berserk. Thus it is important
to make sure that someone has been protected by equipping with
a Ribbon. Please note that not all enemies that Gau can learn
Rages from. Examples include ProtoArmor etc.

Magic
Final Fantasy VI has an unique magic learning system, which
is also known as Esper System. To acquired new Magic, your characters
need to search for new Espers, which these will turn into Magicite.
The characters could inherit the Esper's Magic as long they
are summoned in battles. At the end of the battle, your characters
could gained Magic Points [which works like Ability Points].
Most magic arrives from power of Magicites, jewels that allows
you to summon Esper. For more details, please refer to our Magic
Section.
Critical
