After a fierce morning duel,
Squall
Leonhart will be lying unconscious at the infirmary,
where the doctor of Balamb Garden, Dr. Kadowaki, inspects
his health status. Dr. Kadowaki asks Squall whether he is
all right or not; hence pick any one of the options for Squall's
reply. Next you will be given a chance to name your character
[Squall].

After a short conversation with Squall, Dr Kadowaki called
for Squall's instructor. Shortly, you will have a CGI introduction
of
Quistis Trepe.
She is also known as `Instructor Trepe` in the Garden. From
the conversation, you will know that Squall will be going
to take his SeeD examinations sometime later. Next, Quistis
instructs Squall to follow her back to the classroom. Along
the walkway, you will be able to talk to her by pressing the

button.
As you walk down the walkway, you will trigger another CGI
sequence. At the classroom, you will find both men, Squall
along with Seifer sitting at the back of the classroom. Quistis
will talk to the class that they will begin the SeeD final
examinations in 1600 hrs time.
The SeeD examinations are compulsory for those who want to
be fully pledged SeeD mercenaries. Balamb Garden is a training
academy for cadets to be full-time SeeD mercenaries.
After that short briefing, you will regain control of Squall
for the first time. You can access the menu by hitting the

button.
You will have the following items in your item inventory and
there are
6x Potions,
4x Phoenix Downs,
1x
Tent and
2x Remedies.
Before exiting the classroom, return back to Squall's seat
to access the Balamb Garden Network. Next enjoy the in-game
tutorial, and tried to get a brief idea on how to use the
Junction
system. You can do this by selecting the 'Tutorial
Menu' from the 'Balamb Garden Network'.
Balamb
Garden Network
The network was user-friendly for begineers & you
should not have much difficulty in using it.
To activate the network, just move Squall back to his
desk and hit the
button on the study panel. Upon the first access, pick
the first option [Tutorial], and you will be able to
receive your first two Guardian Forces: GF
Quezacotl and GF
Shiva. You will be prompted to name the GF,
thus bringing you to a name-input screen, where you
have used it earlier to name Squall. |
To exit from the tutorial, simply press

and pick the first option. For begineers, I recommend you
to take a look at the Basic Tutorial before exiting the classroom.
It is better to do some 'ground work' before you actually
start enter the battles. By the way, feel free to navigate
other options and you can find some hilarious jokes related
to the life in the Garden. The Garden School Festival is currently
closed as the member-in-charge has not started her work yet.
Once you are done, proceed and talk to Quistis, who is currently
surrounded by a group of students. This group of students
are also known as the 'Trepe Groupies'. Quistis will tell
Squall that he needs to go to the Fire Cavern for his field
test.
Now, you need to exit the classroom. At the walkway, head
south a bit and you will have a cut-scene of Squall knocking
into a girl.
[1] "Are you OK?"
[2] ".........."
After some conversation, you will find out that this girl
wants Squall to take her for a tour around Balamb Garden.
She says that she had been just transferred from Trabia Garden
to this new academy for Garden School Festival Committee.
[1] "Sure." -(This will result the girl following
Squall)
[2] "Don't have time" - (You could be free to navigate
the Garden yourself).
There isn't any difference based on the choice that you choose
to make. If you pick the top option, the girl will follow
Squall until he reaches the 1st floor. You can look for her
at Quad. From the classroom, make your way towards right and
Squall will be moving on a walkway that leads to the elevator.
On the walkway, Squall meet a man and he will tell Squall
that his brother has given him some cards. Next, he will offer
Squall the cards. From now, you can challenge other people
in towns for a card game by hitting the

button. For more details about the card game, please refer
to
Card
Section for more guidance.
Proceed inside the elevator. The elevator will take you to
the 1st floor of the Garden. If you choose the top option,
you will have a short sequence of Squall explain to that female
cadet about facilities in Balamb Garden.
Dormitory [Gray]
The dormitory is a place where you can change Squall's clothes
and rest. Rest helps to recover Squall's lost HP and restore
status effects. In other words, it was just like staying in
a free inn. By the way, do you know that GFs have auto-walk
and recover? Auto-walk and recover means that as Squall moves
on the terrain , the GF's HP will recover by a small amount.
At the dorms, you can find a Save Point. If Squall's HP is
low or you are run out of curative items, head back to the
dorm and rest in order to restore HP. Most of the cadets of
Balamb Garden lived in dormitories. Squall is currently staying
two room-dorm. His bed is located on right.
Parking Lot [Yellow]
This is the place where the people living in Garden parked
their vehicles. Typically, it serves no significant purpose
in the game. Anyway, this place is being used only once for
the entire game...
Training Center [Green]
This is a thick tropical jungle, where cadets are assigned
to come here for their train training. The monsters that you
encounter here are generally Grat and occasionally a Tyrannosaur
Rex (T-Rexaur)! There is a Save Point within the area. You
can find a Draw Point near the pond
Blizzard.
I would advise you to avoid visiting this place for the time
being.
Library [Blue]
Within the library, there is a Draw Point located in between
the bookshelves a single-usage draw point -
Esuna.
You will find
Occult Fan I
on the 3rd bookshelf counting from left. If you have not choose
to go with the girl earlier, there is a high chances of you
getting a cut-scene of a female librarian expressing her love
for a guy.
Central Gate [Dark Blue]
This leads the main entrance of the academy but it does not
lead to World Map directly. You need to head three screens
south to reach the main gate. You can find a Draw Point
Cure near the fountain. To get IN and OUT, be
sure to pay some attention to the admission gates! You can
find Quistis at the main gate.
Infirmary [Purple]
This is the place where you can find the doctor, Dr. Kadowaki.
You can always find Dr. Kadowaki most of times there. You
can find injured members resting here.
Quad [Pink]
There is a stage there which is used for the Garden Festival.
You will find the girl that you have met earlier here and
prompting whether you will join the Garden Festival Committee,
if you have chosen to go the tour with the girl earlier.
Cafeteria [Red]
You will meet
Seifer
and his friends, members of the Discipline Committee:
Fujin
and
Raijin,
the first time you visit there. The hotdogs are hot favorites
for the students of the Garden.
Elevator
The elevator simply allows you to access the 2nd and 1st floor
of Balamb Garden. The 3rd floor leads to the headmaster's
office and you required a special permission to access it.
Lobby
You can find a directory featuring a map of 1st floor of Balamb
Garden. Within the area, you can find a Save point. To view
the directory, just simply position Squall in front of the
map and hit the

button to view the map. You find gatherings such as important
meetings with the headmaster, instructors at the lobby.
To save your game, proceed to the Save Point and you will
be able to access the save menu.
Spend a couple of minutes in navigating around the Garden.
Once you are done with your 'tour', proceed to the Central
Gate to look for Quistis. You will find "flipping"
gates at the Central Gate. Just simply hold forward at the
red gate and Squall will knock it to 'push' open the gate.
At the frontyard, Squall will meet a lady dressed in orange,
she is no other than Squall's instructor, Quistis Trepe. You
should have a Tutorial about 'Junction a GF'. Pay attention
if this is your first playing the game. Do some necessary
preparations and exit the area to the World Map.
