Guardian Forces are the returning Summons from the previous Final Fantasies. Unlike the previous FF series, you will find that GFs have Hit Points and they will take time to summon. In this installment, you will no longer need to have MP to summon GFs, which means you can summon them for infinite times until the Guardian's HP has dropped zero. GFs have abilities and they are classified into five six major abilities and they are Junction; Character; Party; GF; Menu; Command. For more details about the abilities, you can refer to Junction section.

Taking care of GFs
Without equipping a GF, your character will only have the [Attack] command and nothing else! In other words, you need GFs. GFs' hit points can be restored by using GF items, which can be bought from pet shops and refined from items. You can also customized a GF by using Amnesia Greens by removing some abilities and insert new and better abilities. For more details, please click here.

There are a total of 23 GFs in the game. 22 of them are usable and 16 of them owns abilities for your characters to junction. The 16 ability GFs are classified as below:

The Ability Guardian Forces

Quezacotl  Shiva  Ifrit   Siren  Brothers  Diablos  Carbuncle  Leviathan

Pandemona  Cerberus  Alexander  Doomtrain  Bahamut  Cactuar  Tonberry  Eden

Other Guardian Forces
Gilgamesh  Odin  Phoenix  Chicobo GrieverMiniMog  Moomba

Click on the status portraits of all the GFs to view the personal page profile for each individual GFs.

Steps in Summoning an Ability GF
First of all, make sure you have junction a GF to a character and equip [GF] command. Once you get into a battle, do the following:

Select [GF] command
Select the desired GF from the list. You will see a grey box overlapping the character's ATB and hit points gauge. The GF's
ATB is moving in an opposite direction. At this moment of time, the GF will be withstanding the damage received from enemy regards whether it is magic or physical damage. Surprisingly is that a Fire elemental GF would not nullify fire-elemental attacks...
Wait for the ATB to be full depleted and you will see "summoning bubbles" appearing. The GF is summoned!

Optional Steps for Boost-Compatible GF

If the GF is a boost-compatible GF and you have acquired Boost already. Hold down the SELECT button.
You will see a button appearing on the lower right hand corner of the screen. Tap to boost up the numbers. The number started from 75 and the maximum is 255. You can do the tapping between the summoning animation of the GF. Please note that there is often a red cross overlapping the GF sometimes. Do not tap button otherwise the number will fall. Generally, if you tap till 150, the GF will inflict double the damage that it normally does. Hint: You may want to use a Turbo PSX controller to do the trick.

About GF Compatibility
There are a lot important concepts to learn about using GFs. As the damage done by GF is based on its elemental [the elemental rule applies] and boost-compatibility. The speed of the GF's ATB is based on GF's compatibility. The higher the compatibility the GF has with the character, the faster the GF will be summoned! To view the compatibility charts, hit O to activate the menu and select [Status] and select the character. Hit for a couple of times and you will find GF compatibility information. It measured in terms of the numbers. The higher the numbers, the better the compatibility between that character and GF. You can improve the compatibility by summoning GF with the character more often (also killing more enemies with the GF), using GF compatibility items such as Dynamo Stone for Quezacotl, Artic Wind for Shiva, etc. Luv Luv G is the best items used for boosting GF compatibility. Just simply use the GF compatibility item via the Item Menu on the character. For more details, please refer to the Items Bestiary.
